The "Gateway Project" hopes to provide housing for individuals earning between $18,000 to $60,000 annually. While supporters believe the project will help families afford rent and necessities, opponents express concerns about safety and infrastructure issues in the neighborhood. WSLS reports the Rescue Mission, involved in the project, addresses concerns over property management and aims to partner with Homes for America for long-term management. Despite opposition, some residents see the Gateway Project as an opportunity to revitalize Southeast Roanoke and address the city's housing crisis. The project still requires final approval from the City Council.
