The state's growing demand for electricity, driven by data center expansion, has led to a significant increase in imported power, with costs rising almost tenfold in a year. Virginia now imports more electricity than any other state, a trend attributed to the rapid growth of data centers and the state's reliance on out-of-state power sources. The Cardinal News reports the challenge lies in balancing energy needs with concerns about cost, source, and dependency on other states, as Virginia aims to expand its energy generation capacity through various means such as solar, nuclear, natural gas, and wind.
