Some Virginia lawmakers want to prioritize criminal justice reform to emphasize rehabilitation, reduce recidivism, and provide second chances to individuals involved in the justice system. Governor Glenn Youngkin's "Stand Tall, Stay Strong, Succeed Together" Reentry Initiative aims to support successful reentry by offering resources like education, job training, mental health services, and stable housing. Proposed legislation, such as House Bill 2252 and Senate Bill 936, would allow individuals on probation to reduce their terms through participation in rehabilitation programs, mirroring successful models in states like Florida.
