Officials say Maddy, a German Shepherd, tragically passed away after ingesting a toxic substance during a mission in Virginia. The Louisa County Sheriff’s Office announced the loss of the dedicated hero, who had served over 100 missions. Maddy, who was found abandoned as a puppy in 2013, became a certified state volunteer team member and worked with law enforcement for over eight and a half years. GARD K9 Search and Rescue, who handled Maddy, expressed their sorrow at the loss of the heroic dog, who had saved lives and left a lasting impact. 13News Now reports Maddy's journey from an abandoned puppy to a beloved hero was described as a storybook tale by GARD K9.
