Kasey Ball, a junior at Holston High School, is one of 44 students enrolled in the new Southwest Virginia Healthcare Excellence Academy Lab School to explore health care careers. The lab school, part of Governor Glenn Youngkin's initiative, aims to address the shortage of health care workers in Southwest Virginia. The Cardinal News reports students take dual enrollment classes and gain hands-on experience in hospitals, preparing for careers in nursing, pharmacy, dentistry, and more. Despite initial challenges, the lab school is now successfully operating with support from Old Dominion University as the fiscal agent.
