(Amherst County, VA) -- Health officials are warning the public to not swim in Mill Creek Lake. Rocio Rivera has details.Preview: The lake has been found to be filled with a toxic algae bloom. The Virginia Department of Health says the algae can pose a severe threat of illness if you touch or drink it. They say exposure to the algae infested water can cause a skin rash and gastrointestinal illnesses, such as upset stomach, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. They advise to avoid any water that is green or bluish-green, as they are more toxin filled. Boating is still being allowed with proper precations. But they advise to keep any pets out of the water.
