A company called Lamar Advertising owns a billboard on North 5th Street that sits on the Shockoe Hill African Burying Grounds. Mayor Levar Stoney and other city officials want the company to move the billboard somewhere else. The company says it's willing to do so, but it wants other spots to place its billboards in return. Stoney says Lamar wants 12 billboard faces, five of them digital and six at locations around the city. He says that's excessive and flat out disgusting. Stoney says he's asking for Lamar to do the right thing. A lawyer for the company tells 12 On Your Side Lamar wants to find common ground, and they look forward to working with the new mayor and city council.
