A report released this week by the Joint Legislative Audit Commission finds that General Assembly members are paid less than lawmakers in other states, despite having a workload that takes between 30 and 60 hours a week. Members of the state Senate receive 18-thousand a year and reimbursement for expenses like mileage and maintaining a district office. Members of the House of Delegates receive about 400 dollars less per year. The base salary of Virginia lawmakers hasn't increased since 1998.
