At least two cases have been reported in the Commonwealth, while at least six have been discovered in the neighboring state of Maryland. The CDC says a majority of patients who have fallen sick reported eating meats that were sliced at deli counters. Symptoms of listeria typically show up within two weeks after eating contaminated food. They include headaches, loss of balance, and muscle aches. People who are most at risk of illness are pregnant women, anyone over 65 years old, and those with a weakened immune system. So far, a dozen states have been tied to the investigation into the outbreak.
