The agency announced yesterday that 57 people have been hospitalized in 18 states due to the outbreak. Deaths from the outbreak have occurred in Virginia, Illinois, New Jersey, New Mexico, South Carolina and Tennessee. More than seven-million pounds of deli meat from the Jarratt, Virginia plant has been recalled due to the outbreak. It's the worst listeria outbreak in the U.S. since 2011, when 147 people were sickened and 33 died due to contaminated cantaloupe.
