(Harrisonburg, VA) -- Minimum wages in Virginia are increasing in the new year. More on that story from Thomas Cage.Preview: Voicer Script:
The current hourly wage of 12-dollars will be increasing to 12-41 per hour as of January 1st. It's due to the Minimum Wage Act in Virginia passed in 2020. It gradually increases the minimum wage in response to inflation. Earlier this year, Gov. Youngkin vetoed a bill that would have increased the minimum wage to 13-50 an hour in 2025, and 15-dollars by 2026. Youngkin said "a one-size-fits-all mandate ignores the vast economic and geographic differences and undermines the ability to adapt to regional cost-of-living differences and market dynamics."
