Miss Blue Ridge Carlehr [[ car-LEE-ah ]] Swanson was named Miss Virginia on Saturday night in Roanoke. Swanson spent more than ten years working for the title, starting with the Miss Virginia Opportunity program and taking part in the pageant six times. She's a third-year PhD student at the University of Virginia and is the founder of "Music is Unity," an organization that gives free music performances at schools and nursing homes. She'll receive 20-thousand dollars and the chance to represent Virginia at the Miss America pageant.
