While sitting for more than 10 hours a day can increase the risk of heart disease or stroke, standing for long periods may lead to circulatory issues like varicose veins. A study published in the International Journal of Epidemiology recommends incorporating movement throughout the day, such as taking short walks or switching between standing and sitting. The research, based on observations of over 83-thousand participants, points to the importance of movement rather than a static position to promote better health outcomes. It's unclear how employers can incorporate this need into the modern workplace.
