The company says the Richmond Raceway will not host one of its two regular NASCAR Cup Series races in the 2025 season. This would mark the first time in more than six decades that the eastern Henrico track would not take on two races within a season. A race typically held in the capital city in the spring is scheduled to move to Mexico City. NASCAR is calling Tuesday's announcement a historic moment for the sport as it expands its footprint into another country. A 2009 study by the Washington Economics Group shows that every race weekend in Richmond has created an economic impact of nearly 170-million dollars for the region and more than 40-million dollars in tax revenue.
