Two crisis centers are set to open in Southwest Virginia in 2025. Blue Ridge Behavioral Health is opening a center in Hollins with 24-hour access for voluntary support, offering up to 23 hours of stay and 12 beds. WSLS reports the Marcus Alert unit will be present to respond to behavioral health crises, aiming to divert 911 calls to 988 for clinician support. Horizon Behavioral is also launching a crisis receiving center in Lynchburg, offering services such as drug detox and mental health evaluations to address the community's needs. These centers hope to alleviate the strain on hospitals, provide alternative care options, and help officers return to patrolling the streets.
