A startup spun out of MIT plans to build the world's first commercial nuclear fusion power plant in Chesterfield County. Commonwealth Fusion Systems announced plans for a 400-megawatt fusion plant, expected to be operational in the early 2030s. The facility aims to power about 150,000 homes and will be located on a 94-acre property in Chesterfield. WTVR reports that CFS, the world's largest private fusion company, is working on a prototype fusion machine called SPARC in Massachusetts, with the goal of achieving nuclear fusion by 2026.
