(Hampton, VA) -- Police are warning some drivers in Hampton Roads about a new traffic enforcement initiative that's about to take effect. Madison Roberts reports:Preview: Voicer Script:
The Portsmouth Police Department recently activated red light cameras at nine busy intersections. They are mainly up and running along Victory, Frederick, and Portsmouth boulevards. A warning period is currently underway to alert drivers of the upcoming change. However, starting on July 22nd, anyone caught driving through a red light will receive a 50-dollar fine. In addition to the new technology, the city started using speed detection cameras in seven school zones earlier this year. Drivers caught speeding while the flashing lights are on will have to pay a one-hundred-dollar fine.
