>>Newport News Gets Rid of Minimum Parking Requirements
(Newport News, VA) -- A Hampton Roads city has voted to get rid of minimum parking requirements. Rocio Rivera has more.Preview: Newport News has done away with the minimum parking requirements making the city the first in the region to do so. It's a move to promote growth in the city and encourage developers. These requirements used to require a parking space for every single family home, required one space for each hotel guest room, and required one space fore every 100-square-foot of floor space in hotels. The Mayor of Newport News, Philip Jones, says this is an important step for the city and proves they have a pro-growth mindset. City leaders also say getting rid of the requirements will improve the quality of life for the area. I'm RR.
