The agency is collaborating with authorities around the country for Operation Crash Awareness Reduction Effort. CARE is a state-sponsored, national program that works to prevent crashes involving impaired driving or speeding. The initiative began at midnight and will run through midnight on Sunday. Virginia State Police were at the scene of more than 370 traffic accidents during the last Independence Day holiday, including seven deadly incidents. As a way to keep the numbers down, authorities are suggesting people who plan to drink on the Fourth of July think ahead and arrange a designated driver or rideshare service.
