The U.S. Department of Justice announced the settlement with Abingdon-based Food City on Monday. The government accused Food City pharmacies of filling opioid prescriptions without making sure they were medically necessary. The chain also agreed to pay Kentucky and Virginia more than 78-thousand dollars for claims made to state Medicaid programs.
