(Richmond, VA) -- Three people have had their charges reduced in connection to the death of a Henrico man. Sara Bartlett has the story.Preview: Voicer Script:
Initially, ten people were charged in 28-year-old Irvo Ortieno's death last year. Otieno died in the custody of Henrico Sheriff's deputies while being pinned down by deputies and staff at Central State Hospital in Dinwiddie County. Charges were dropped for seven people and now WRIC reports that second-degree murder charges against former sheriff's deputies Brandon Rodgers and Kaiyell Sanders along with former hospital employee Wavie Jones have been downgraded to involuntary manslaughter. Otieno's cause of death was ruled as asphyxia with restraints. Last year, his family reached an eight-and-a-half million dollar wrongful death settlement.
