The White House introduced an opioid overdose tracker in 2022 to address the issue, tracking data from EMS agencies nationwide. New data reveals that two Virginia cities have some of the highest non-fatal overdose rates in the country per capita. WSLS reports Washington D.C., Delaware, North Carolina, Washington State, and Oregon reported the highest rates of nonfatal overdoses in the past year. Galax ranked fifth, Richmond ninth, and Roanoke City second in the per capita breakdown. The dashboard focuses on opioids and stimulants, with Fentanyl Awareness Day on April 29th prompting the Governor to order flags flown at half-staff in Virginia.
