Shenandoah National Park has closed its streams and rivers to fishing due to low flows and high water temperatures caused by drought conditions in Northern Virginia. The park is experiencing dry stream flows and depleted oxygen levels, creating stressful conditions for fish. This closure is rare and has also occurred in 2021 and 2023 due to drought. The Virginia Drought Management Task Force reports that the state experienced a high-impact drought in late summer and fall of 2023, leading to major wildfires.
