52-year-old Gregory Joyner of Petersburg was killed in a car accident last week after WSET-TV reports that his vehicle was hit by a tractor-trailer on I-295 in Hopewell. Joyner was a teenager in 1988 when he was found guilty of the attempted rape and first-degree murder of 15-year-old Sarah Jamison of Lynchburg. He was sentenced to life in prison, but in 2020 was granted parole. He was out on supervised released when he was involved in last week's deadly accident.
