A state senator is taking over as head of the Virginia Democratic Party. Senator Lamont Bagby was elected chairman by the party's Central Committee on Saturday. The Richmond native was elected to the House of Delegates in 2015 and became a state senator in 2023. He's been the chair of the Virginia Legislative Black Caucus since 2017. He succeeds Susan Swecker, who became chair of the party in 2015.
