The Virginia Department of Health has reported a total of five pediatric flu-related deaths for the season as of March 29th, with 76 respiratory illness-related deaths in the past six weeks.The state is seeing a decrease in the number of ER visits for respiratory illnesses
10 On Your Side reports that the VDH recommends preventive actions to wash hands, cough or sneeze into elbows, and staying up to date with vaccinations. Most of the state is now in the "low" category for respiratory illness activity. Data shows that individuals ages 5-17 are the most hospitalized for respiratory illness, followed closely by those ages 0-4.
