The National Transportation Safety Board suggested that the pilot and passengers became incapacitated during the climb to cruise altitude, with the plane likely on autopilot when it entered restricted airspace around Washington. WUSA 9 reports that Maintenance issues with the pressurization system were noted prior to the crash, and the U.S. military scrambled F-16 fighter jets to intercept the Cessna before it crashed in the mountains. This incident is reminiscent of past cases involving unresponsive pilots.
