The project, part of the Conservation Reserve Enhancement Program, aims to improve soil conservation, water quality, wildlife habitat, and provide recreational opportunities. WDBJ reports the fast-growing trees planted will soon transform the landscape into a baby forest. The project involved coordination between six federal, state, and local agencies and took a year and a half to plan and finance. Those interested in conservation programs can contact their local USDA office or Soil and Water Conservation District.
