The American Community Survey shows the state's overall poverty rate was ten-point-two percent last year. That's two points lower than the national rate. Virginia's poverty rate has been on the downswing since 2017. State officials say federal and state anti-poverty measures, like the expanded child tax credit, are helping the state's most needy.
