The agency announced this week that it is awarding over two-billion dollars for eight projects across 18 states. The Virginia Department of Energy will be part of a project to build battery storage systems at data centers in Virginia and South Carolina. The Virginia branch of the project will be built at the Iron Mountain data center in Prince William County. The 106-million-dollar project is part of a drive to make data centers more resilient in the event of an electrical grid shutdown.
