The grant, part of the Environmental and Climate Justice Community Change Grants Program, is under review by the Trump administration. Democratic senators argue that canceling the grant, along with others, would be illegal and violate the terms of the contracts. The EPA administrator, Lee Zeldin, defended the grant terminations to 13 News Now as part of an effort to save money from "wasteful DEI and environmental justice initiatives." Hampton's grant is one of eleven in Virginia that could be terminated, totaling around $71 million.
