The May 7th set for the deadline for the Real I.D. requirement approaches, DMV wait times have been increasing nationwide, including at the Roanoke Valley DMV. To obtain a Real I.D., individuals need to provide proof of identity, Virginia residency, legal presence, and their social security number. WAVY reports that the cost for a Real I.D. is $10, in addition to the cost of a new I.D. If unable to obtain a Real I.D. before the deadline, alternative federally accepted documents like a U.S. Passport can be used for domestic air travel or access to federal facilities.
