Jason Miyares' [[me-yar-ez]] office says racist text messages were sent to individuals across the state, asking them to report to a plantation to pick cotton. The messages arrived on people's phones the day after Election Day. Recipients, including 13News Now photographer Sam Burwell, expressed concern over the disturbing content. The Attorney General's Office urged those feeling threatened to contact local law enforcement or the FBI. The FBI's Norfolk Office could not confirm or deny an investigation but encouraged reporting of threatening messages to authorities.
