In 1973, the body of an unidentified African American woman in her 20s was found in Loudoun County. Recently, the sheriff's office obtained permission to exhume her remains to use advanced DNA technology for identification. WTOP reports changes in the law now make it illegal to bury unidentified individuals, leaving the woman's remains in limbo. Efforts are underway to give her a respectful burial, and the county is working on legislative changes to allow reinterment of exhumed bodies.
