State Senator Stella Pekarsly is pushing for legislation in Virginia to ensure that all children receive an education. WRIC reports the bill aims to close a loophole that allows over 6,700 children with religious exemptions to not be required to show proof of any formal education, unlike the state's homeschooled children. Some parents and advocates argue that the bill would violate their First Amendment right to religious freedom. The bill has been approved by a Senate subcommittee and will now move to the full committee for further debate.
