Eighty-seven dogs, cats, horses, and small animals were rescued by the County Animal Control in Hayes due to unsanitary and inhumane conditions. The animals were seized after a search warrant was executed in April following an investigation into suspected animal neglect. WAVY reports that the animals are now in the care of county officials, with permanent custody awarded to animal control due to the severity of conditions. Officials thanked various agencies and partners for their assistance in the case, and criminal charges are pending against the suspects.
