>>Shenandoah County School Board Restores Confederate Names to Schools
(Shenandoah County, VA) -- The Shenandoah County School Board has restored the Confederate names of two schools that had been renamed. Rocio Rivera has details.Preview: The board restored the names of Mountain View High School to again be named Stonewall Jackson High School, and Honey Run Elementary School to Ashby-Lee Elementary School. The board voted to have their names changed in 2020 citing an effort to condemn racism. But this year, nearly all board members voted to restore the names saying the process in 2020 was rushed and didn't have sufficient input from the community. The request to restore the names initially came from the Coalition for Better Schools asking for the board to remember the county's Civil War history. The Virginia NAACP has previously condemned efforts to restore the names. I'm RR.
