Roanoke College's Environment Center in Salem has become a haven for native wildlife thanks to a grant from the National Wildlife Federation and Mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom. Students and faculty have installed bat houses, owl boxes, and bee boxes, transforming a former landfill site into a thriving ecosystem. The Ronaoke Times reports the center aims to promote native species and provide habitats for various types of native animals. Through community involvement and educational initiatives, the center serves as a living laboratory and a valuable resource for conservation efforts in the area.
