(Virginia Beach, VA) -- A new rideshare option may be coming to Virginia Beach's Bayside and Oceanfront areas after a successful pilot program that also included Newport News. The Microtransit Project charges passengers $2 dollars per ride and pairs those traveling along the same path through an app. WAVY reports the project, proposed in 2020, aims to improve mobility in the region. A recent pilot program in Virginia Beach and Newport News showed promising results, with short wait times and high ride ratings. The program would be funded through a grant, with Virginia Beach potentially launching the service by Fall 2024 pending city council approval.
