(Virginia Beach, VA) -- More than 20 Rite Aid stores in Virginia are closing. Rocio Rivera has more.Preview: Rite Aid stores all across the Commonwealth are closing. The company decided to close about 700 stores nationwide after a major restructuring since filing for bankruptcy in 2023. A judge has approved a plan for the pharmacy giant to cut about $2 billion of its debt. Rite Aid says that plan will in turn save about 28-thousand jobs that would have otherwise been lost. Rite Aid is also selling off its pharmacy benefit company, Elixir, in the deal. And they're negotiating settlements with lenders, the government, and individuals who have sued them for their alleged part in the U.S. opiod epidemic. I'm RR.
