Ongoing road work includes the rehabilitation of the 1975 Cypress Creek Bridge by VDOT and the relocation of an underground natural gas pipeline on Main Street, according to a Columbia Gas spokeswoman Stephanie Benson. Assistant Isle of Wight County Administrator Don Robertson tells the Smithfield Times reports the pipeline relocation is part of the town's beautification efforts to expand sidewalks and is expected to be completed by the end of June. Additional projects on Grace Street involve sidewalk and curb-and-gutter repairs prior to a planned re-paving of the roadway. Plans also include Main Street being widened to six lanes by October of 2028.
