The Lynchburg Commonwealth's Attorney's Office says an assault and battery petition has been filed against I.C. Norcom High School senior Alaila Everett. Everett was running in the four-by-200-meter relay at the state indoor championship earlier this month when she hit Brookville's Kaelen Tucker with a baton. Everett claims it was an accident, while Tucker's family has demanded an apology and sought a protective order against Everett. The Portsmouth NAACP has condemned the criminal charge, saying it was unwarranted.
