New research from UVA’s School of Medicine aims to identify babies at risk of sudden infant death syndrome - the leading cause of death in infants aged one month to one year. By studying blood samples from infants who died of SIDS and comparing them with samples from babies who died of other causes, researchers tell WVIR they have identified potential biological indicators linked to SIDS. This research could lead to the development of blood tests for infants to identify biomarkers associated with an increased risk of SIDS, allowing doctors to provide better prevention strategies for parents.
