The board's newly approved accreditation standards will divide schools into different categories, including distinguished, on track, or needs intensive support. Governor Glenn Youngkin says the process will help schools who need more help. Meanwhile, the Virginia Education Association believes the change, which hasn't been done since 2017, is politically motivated. The organization says the system will negatively impact districts by measuring student demographics and privilege, rather than teacher effectiveness. Students will start to return to campuses across the state next month.
