The decision to close the schools was difficult but necessary, according to School Board Member Arlet Greer. The future use of the properties is now in the hands of the Franklin County Board of Supervisors, who will decide how to utilize them. WDBJ reports the school board has requested that any money from future leasing or sales of the properties be used for school construction or renovation. Greer suggested that the old schools could potentially be used as a community building or for other purposes, but formal discussions on their future use have not yet taken place.
