The Virginia School Boards Association President, Cardell Patillo Junior says there is an ongoing issue of underfunding in Virginia's K-12 public schools, as revealed by the Joint Legislative Audit and Review Commission report. The report identified the state's Standards of Quality funding formula as a major factor in the underfunding, with schools needing $17.3 billion dollars in state and local funds, exceeding the $10.7 billion dollars indicated by the formula. Patillo emphasizes the need for state leaders to address this funding gap and ensure every Virginia child receives a quality education. The Joint Subcommittee to Study Elementary and Secondary Public Education will meet on September 16 to discuss the findings.
