>>Virginia Officials Debating Over Funding School Support Staff Positions
(Richmond, VA) -- The General Assembly and Gov. Glenn Youngkin are at odds over funding school support staff positions in Virginia. Katie Gray reports.Preview: SCRIPT:
The General Assembly's budget includes $222.9 million to increase the number of support positions per 1,000 students, while Youngkin's proposed budget amendments only allocate $84.8 million for this purpose. Democrats argue that Youngkin's changes will force school districts to divert funds from other important initiatives, such as tutoring and enrichment programs. WRIC reports that Democrats have the opportunity to reject Youngkin's budget amendments with a simple majority vote on April 2.
