Shenandoah County School Board members voted last year to restore Confederate names to two schools, honoring Confederate Generals Thomas “Stonewall” Jackson, Turner Ashby, and Robert E. Lee and reversing a 2020 decision by a previous board. The Virginia Mercury reports the Virginia NAACP and five students alleges the board “reaffirmed discrimination” by doing so. U.S. District Court Judge Michael Urbanski ruled the court can proceed with the discovery process Friday. A date for the next hearing has not been set.
