(Blacksburg, VA) -- Another Virginia city considers adding cameras to school zones. Rebecca Hughes with more.Preview: Voicer Script:
The Blacksburg Town Council seem to be leaning towards installing speed cameras in school zones in order to deter drivers from speeding. If approved, violators caught driving 10 miles or more over the speed limit in an active school zone will face a $100 civil fine, which can be contested. Residents, including Lee Ann Walton - a parent from Gilbert Linkous Elementary School, support the measure to improve safety for pedestrians and children. Walton tells WFXR, “Myself and my children have been almost hit and I’ve seen the crossing guard almost be hit as well on several occasions." Town council hopes to hear public comment on the topic June 11th.
