(Richmond, VA) -- Backseat passengers in the state of Virginia could soon be required to buckle up, or face fines. Rocio Rivera has details.Preview: The new seat belt bill was passed by both the state House and the Senate. It will require backseat passengers in vehicles to use a seat belt, or face a $25 dollar fine. Current law only requires front seat passengers to wear a seat belt. THe National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says the state of Virginia is one of the worst for seat belt usage. Only 73% of passengers buckle up, well below the national average of 92%. The bill is on Governor Youngkin's desk. If he signs it, it will go into effect on July 1st. I'm RR.
